Great Northern Restaurant & Pub

172 London Rd, St Albans AL1 1PQ, UK – 01727 730867

Nice atmosphere with welcoming staff. They had a good selection of both real ale and lager and a comprehensive wine list. Although we didn't eat the food that was brought out looked fresh and well prepared and it'll be somewhere we'll go back to soon to try out.

Small but good range of people. We had a quick drink before the cinema. Friendly staff, comfortable seats.

The King Harry

2 King Harry Ln, St Albans AL3 4BL, UK – 01727 846904

Lovely quaint pub. Friendly service and the Fish & Chips was delicious, best chips ever, generous portion size too

Good food, good selection of beer and good service. Really nice beer garden round the back.

Green Dragon

Waterside, London Colney, St Albans AL2 1RB, UK – 01727 530312

Nice food and good range of ales in an olde worlde style pub in a lovely setting. What more could you want

Our first Sunday Roast at the Green Dragon and what a wonderful lunch it was. Highly recommend a visit. Wonderful location, friendly helpful staff, and the landlady Julie, very welcoming. If you want to experience a lovely traditional pub...... visit Green Dragon. Julie and staff, we will certainly be back.

The Restaurant at Sopwell House

The Brasserie at Sopwell House

Sopwell House, Cottonmill Ln, St Albans AL1 2HQ, UK – 01727 864477

Very nice lunchtime buffet. All good. The slight downside is everyone else in the restaurant wearing white dressing gowns.

The food at sopwell house is ecxelent and the service is fantastic. We love eating there.

Cinnamon Lounge

1 Shenley Ln, London Colney, St Albans AL2 1LP, UK – 01727 822015

Excellent service and good quality food. Highly recommended. Nan bread is the best i have ever tasted.

Probably one of the nicest curry houses in or around St Albans area apart from the Chilli Raj. very nice food indeed. The staff have amazing customer service skills and dress appropriately unlike some restaurants in the area

Chinese Restaurants serving the Bricket Wood area

Sam's Take Away

3 Haseldine Rd, London Colney, St Albans AL2 1RR, UK – 01727 822647

We had: half crispy aromatic duck, crispy seaweed, satay chicken on skewers, sesame prawn on toast, crispy shredded beef, malrk chicken and sams special chow. Best Chinese we've all had in ages, fresh and tasty. Happy to have found a decent Chinese near us finally. Order was bang on time as well. Thanks guys!

Delivered on time. food delivered hot. Chicken chow mein is on point ,spicy beef is tasty ,Very tasty Chinese. Will be ordering again!

Hong Kong Inn

122 London Rd, St Albans AL1 1PQ, UK – 01727 810210

Really fast and good food. Classic reliable Chinese takeaway 🙂

I've lived in HK and this is the best Cantonese food in St Albans. The carbon-wok taste is authentic and the food is always piping hot. From the time we order our food on the telephone to the time our food is ready for pick up, it is approx 10 minutes. Fridays are the busiest and the most we ever had to wait is 12 mins. There is only one delivery driver so picking up food might be faster than waiting for delivery. We highly recommended the fried rice, noodle, and deep fried squid. For working parents, this place is a lifesaver. You can opt out of MSG if feeding children! Fast, Economic, Healthy and Tasty!

Indian Restaurants and takeaways in or near Bricket Wood

The Viceroy

85 Old Watford Rd, St Albans, Bricket Wood, St Albans AL2 3UN, UK – 01923 672121

Have been going here since it opened in 1991 and have never had a bad meal. Both eating in and takeaway. It is always busy Friday and Saturday so best to book a table or allow good time to order a takeaway but you won't be disappointed !

We were recommended to try this restaurant, we went as a party of 5 chicken vindaloo, chicken tikka masala, prawn korma, and butter chicken were all generous portions and really tasty and the vindaloo was just the right strength.. Left your lips tingling but not to hot to eat, the rice portions were also nicely sized.. The vegetable biryani was the only let down, bland.. Would we go back... Yes we will.. 5 people ate and drank well for £25 a head and sat there for just over 2 hours.. Give it go a nice local curry house.

Chez Mumtaj

136-142 London Rd, St Albans AL1 1PQ, UK – 01727 800033

Absolutely fabulous food! I don't know how this place doesn't have a Michelin star as it's just as good if not better than Michelin star restaurants I have visited. The restaurant has quite an opulent feel and is comfortable. I recommend the meat platter to start, the duck for main with sides of gunpowder potatoes and naan basket. A visit to Chez Mumtaj isn't cheap but perfect for a special occasion.

We came to lunch here today ( 15 of us) after having reserved a week ago. First off, the service was great. They were great at accommodating a large group of us and they had a good selection of drinks. They sat us in a good area where although not busy didnt feel like you were being watched. They accomodated three kids with kid friendly food. The food however, although tasty, came in extremely small portions. Now, i understand that this is a fine dining kind of establishment, but every single adult leaving the group was still hungry after having their free appetizer, a starter and a main with rice and naan . Apparently this is a lunch set menu which is especially small compared to the normal menu. However i did see the dissapointment on everyones face when the food came out( on the reviews you can see the portion sizes). Some are large, but there are a few there in the photos with just a thimble full of rice. The amount of rice they give you would fill a large egg cup. The serving or veg and meat is proportional to the rice. If you are full easily, or on a diet, or are ordering from the main menu, the food here is 5 out of 5. But being starving after a 2 and a half course meal i felt wasn't acceptable ( the kids portions were bigger than hours) so i can only rate 3*

Italian Pasta and Pizza Restaurants

Sapore D Italia

42 New House Park, St Albans AL1 1UJ, UK – 01727 848492

Lovely authentic Italian pizza! The ingredients were really fresh and you get a generous amount of toppings. The flavours were amazing, the crust was the perfect kind of crispy and not overcooked. I would highly recommend. I tried the vegan thin crust and its by far the nicest vegan pizza - papa johns doesn't even come close now!

Possibly the best Pizza in St Albans. The meat lover and north Italy pizzas are amazing. The staff are very friendly and definitely know how to make good, authentic pizza!

Carmelo's

15 Haseldine Rd, London Colney, St Albans AL2 1RR, UK – 01727 568360

I went here for the first time on a Friday night with a group of friends. There were five of us in total. The staff were very friendly and accomodating and the food was delicious. Most of us had pizza, which was freshly made on the premises and very yummy. There was a nice variety of cocktails some of which were made with fresh fruit puree. Really nice attention to detail.

Went here for brunch with a friend and my skinny caramel latte was amazing, as was the granola with yoghurt and fruits. It could have done with a bit more yoghurt in it but apart from that it was well worth going to. I was surprised at how busy it was considering it was a Sunday late morning but clearly it's popular and I can understand why. Staff are friendly and our food came very quickly. Definitely worth going to again.

Premier Inn St. Albans Bricket Wood

Smug Oak Ln, Bricket Wood, Colney Street, St Albans AL2 3PN, UK – 0871 527 9016

Ideally located for the Harry Potter Studio Tour. Beautiful location. Excellent commuter access. The attached historic pub is lovely! There's even a duck pond, and they sell seeds to feed them with - which my daughter loved. One of the more interesting Premier Inns we've stayed in =)

Great location, lovely friendly staff, spacious and clean room. Ideal for Harry Potter Studio tour but also great access to motorway. Pub on site had great food, staff friendly and service good. Will use again!

Vegetarian or Vegan Restaurants

Orissa Real Indian Food

33 Vesta Ave, St Albans AL1 2PG, UK – 01727 568084

Not the standard uk version of Indian takeaway food, fresh and very tasty... try the spicy garlic and coriander chutney, amazing. Good Monday deals and now on Deliveroo... magic.

Very enjoyable meal & very friendly and helpful staff
