Mercure St Albans Noke Hotel

Noke Thistle Hotel, Watford Rd, St Albans AL2 3DS, UK – 0871 376 9034

You have to enjoy this place for a couple reasons. First is the breakfast in the morning. True French press coffee is the standard coffee they serve you (see photo below). The breakfast is really really nice. Have the steak burger in the pub. Totally solid. These guys are trying, and if they keep putting money in this place will be truly great. Gardens are a HUGE plus when you deal with 1's and 0's all day. Would stay again no hesitation.

Average travelling salesman bed and beer. Lovely original features but the new but is v bland. Don't expect to mess about in the pool too much though, they're not very family mess around friendly.

The Noke

Watford Rd, St Albans AL2 3DS, UK – 01727 854252

Visited the Noke as a part of my birthday present. I was very happy with the stay. The room was lovely and very clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay here again.

Visited as part of a conference. Excellent service provided by the Conference Team, including facilities, food, etc. Rooms more than adequate. A better hotel than what one might assume at first glance.

Sopwell House

Cottonmill Ln, St Albans AL1 2HQ, UK – 01727 864477

Stunning setting in the Herts countryside. Decent spa, pool, gym. Afternoon tea decent and half the price of the same in London. Great grounds at the rear for a glass of something in the sunshine. Building is amazing at the front, too square and concrete at the back, but the rooms are all good. Corridors full of signed football shirts from teams that have stayed there (used to be England's base before they moved to The Grove).

Location is a little way out. However that's why you come here to get away.. rooms are well presented. And staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Pubs, Gastro Pubs and Bars

The King Harry

2 King Harry Ln, St Albans AL3 4BL, UK – 01727 846904

Decent Sunday lunch - though my most recent roast Lamb was a bit tough everyone else's roast chicken or beef were great. The staff are just lovely and deserts to die for.

Up market pub, comfy surroundings serving good food, a good selection of real ales and lagers! Nice garden area!

The Bull

Barnet Rd, London Colney, St Albans AL2 1QU, UK – 01727 823160

Nice local. Go every Friday for a cask ale and ham, egg and chips. Love it. Nice people too (especially Candy).

Traditional pub. Seemingly unaltered for decades. Great value Sunday roast.

The Gate

Bricket Wood, St Albans AL2 3PW, UK – 01923 678944

Excellent food,The chef Kev is amazing as well as all the staff and landlords. You must must try the lamb burger with onion marmalade it is quite possibly the best burger I've ever had and trust me I've had a few. Massive garden for the kiddies and always something going on. Cracking place highly recommended and rated x

Good food. Good quiz. Good service. Good company.

Travel Super Market search and compare prices for hotels all over the world. Could also be useful for you. I This said I was told by a hotelier that the way to get cheap rooms is to ring up the week before and ask for the weekend rate. You can usually get an absolute bargain as they will trying to book all the rooms that they have not sold! Could be worth a try!

178 London Road

178 London Rd, St Albans AL1 1PL, UK – 01727 846726

Nice hosts, excellent breakfast. Close to train station.

We came back from this wonderfull BB yesterday. The best BB we ever visitetd! Warm and helpfull hostess and host, clean and properly everywere. The breakfast was prepared quickly and presented in a very nice manner. A perfect place for a stay in the London-area. Just 90 min from our daughter in Wimbledon! (That is on the opposite side of London). We will recommend this place to everyone! 5 min walk from the station, where the fast trains got us to St Pancreas in 20 min! BUT - we went directly down Alma road and into the BB from the small road leading from London Road.

Premier Inn St. Albans Bricket Wood

Smug Oak Lane, Colney Street, St Albans AL2 3PN, UK – 0871 527 9016

Bit of an older style room but it's a good size, it's clean and well maintained. Nice location and easy to miss the motorway being so close, even with the window open. The on site restaurant is not so good.

Easy reach from M25. Hotel is situated in a rural setting next to an old mill which serves as the adjoining restaurant. This is a great place to bring children as it has a mill pond with lots of tame ducks. The hotel is clean and tidy. Staff are always eager to help. I am a regular at this hotel, I love it.

Ragged Hall Lane

3 Ragged Hall Ln, St Albans AL2 3LA, UK – 07899 725580

Excellent accomodation. Very clean. Very good cooked breakfast. Very friendly personal service.

If you would like something truly different you might like to have a look at Airbnb. These are mostly B and Bs provided by people on a very informal basis. The may have a spare room, a yurt, a cottage or a barge with space they can receive guests for a night or a month! The website is highly professional. You can really see what you are going to get. Very well worth a look. Airbnb also show 'conventional' B&Bs as well. Enjoy!

RedAlert PT & Coaching (Personal Training St Albans)

46 N Cottages, Napsbury, St Albans AL2 1AW, UK – 07805 517712

After two babies and hitting a rut with my own attempts at getting fit and weight loss, I decided to look at PT options. Being a little reluctant at the thought of the cost and being bossed around by a stereotypical gym buff, I was hugely relieved when I met Allie. Her obvious knowledge of health and fitness, immediate enthusiasm (and reasonable rates) made me at ease and look forward to starting. Allie worked with me to set stretching but realistic goals and helped make sensible and achievable lifestyle changes (so no crazy fad diets and I can still eat chocolate) in order to understand not just my own but the whole family’s food and exercise habits. Through Allies enthusiasm, motivation and mixing up the exercise (from kick boxing to running to weights) I have amazingly started enjoying exercise, working out for fun rather than as a chore. So. The bottom line… In less than 5 months Allie has helped me lose 8kg(!) and two dress sizes(!) but more importantly I feel healthier and happier in myself. Awesome! Thanks Allie! Would I recommend her? YES!

I imagined a baby and buggy class to be a gentle bit of stretching etc... but this is a REAL work out. Every class is something different and you can go at your own pace, but if you want to really get rid of the baby fat, lose weight and tone up, this is perfect. Options for those just starting too, so suitable for all. And Allie is super sweet and very encouraging.

Campsites and Caravan Parks

Springfield Park

Old Parkbury Ln, St Albans AL2 2DQ, UK – 01923 850317

Lovely campsite with beautifully kept grounds. Archery and woodland walk were great fun. Thoroughly enjoyed our first camping trip.

Firstly the downside, finding the place is an adventure in itself. The enterance is an alleyway situated within an industrial estate but once you travel along this alleyway, you totally forget about the industrial estate. Although the postcode is correct, my sat nav kept taking me to a place called Tarmac - I would say to read the instructions on their website and maybe even print it out. Now the good bits: Beautifully kept land - looks so natural yet the grass is cut like a golf course. Could not ask for a better location, just within the M25 and train links from Radlett to London. Toilets were always kept clean and the decor of both the toilets and showers were very nuvo. Shop sold coffee, large selection of water and soft drinks, ice creams and the normal sweets and crisps plus a few essential camping things like BBQ, fire lighters, pegs etc... and a few toys for the kids. The toasties are awesome and price is very reasonable. It was cheaper to buy the cold drinks here rather then the petrol stations... There is slight background noise from the M25 (depends which way the wind is blowing) but I'd describe this as white noise which you don't notice after a few minutes. Not overcrowded at all and plenty of space between tents - bearing in mind that I went on the bank holidays. Totally love the firepits and would recommend this place to anyone

Watling Engineers Ltd

88 Park St, Frogmore, St Albans AL2 2LR, UK – 01727 873661

Just bought a bike rack for my renault trafic. Fitted straight out of the wrapping. Fitted in under an hour. Well designed and made.

I used Watling to fit a New towbar on my Jap import Nissan Elgrand. Watling are highly recommended by the Elgrand owners club. and i can see why. Excellent service estimated to take aprrox 3 hours was competed in 2 hours. well worth the further drive to find a specialist well run company that have been completing this type of work for many many years. Dont forget to take your Log book if you need a Number plate If your planning a visit there is not much around apart from a local convenience shop One little point worth thinking about Watling. a nice comfy sofa and coffee machine for your waiting customers would be great and just add to the worthwhile visit.
