Nursery and Preschools

Ladybirds Nursery

Hill End Ln, St Albans AL4 0FE, UK – 01727 730783

My daughter started at the nursery when she was 9 months old and is now in her final pre-school year. Both she and I and now my son love it. The nursery has a very warm and friendly atmosphere. The staff are amazing! there is a genuine warmth for the children in their care. It's a very nurturing environment and the children are encouraged to become independent thinkers. The nursery take full advantage of its fantastic location and the children are taken outside at least twice a day. I cannot recommend Ladybirds enough.

My daughter thrived during her time at Ladybirds in the Kingfisher and Pre-school rooms. The staff are excellent, the environment fun yet comfortable and best of all they get their much needed outdoor time come rain or shine in the fabulous Highfield Park! I am eagerly waiting for my son to start his journey at Ladybirds to follow in his sisters footsteps. Highly recommend.

Albany Montessori School

Sea Cadet Hall, Westminster Lodge, St Albans AL1 2DJ, UK – 07432 669751

I can't think of a better nursery for my children. Fantastic staff, great location across the Westminster Lodge, a lovely community feel in a very spacious facility, with a wide range of activities offered each day (music, French, Chinese, outdoor play...). Most importantly I found that Albany Montessori helped my children to become confident and positive. This is achieved by the nursery workers who continuously encourage learning, curiosity and fraternity. My children made close and long-lasting friends while at Albany Montessori, which I find very meaningful.

After looking at numerous pre-schools we decided to send our son to Albany and really bought into the Montessori philosophy. It has been fantastic to see our little boy grow and develop. Initially he was very clingy to us and shy but before long was asking to go to school in the mornings. All of the teachers are fantastic and take time to know the children on an individual basis. We are so pleased that we were able to find a school like Albany!

Busy Bees at Glenalmond

14 King Harry Ln, St Albans AL3 4AP, UK – 01727 854499

This Mansion House is a WWII S.O.E Base which masterminded operatives parachuting in to occupied europe during the second world war. What makes this site unique against any other base is that this is where the german double agent Kim Thilby who had infiltrated SOE command structure oversaw the failure of 200 + missions and the subsequent capture of personnell whom had just landed. He also went on during the cold war and became known as 'The Third Man'. This building is unique wartime heritage and is an important site in the world today.

One of our kids went here, the staff were excellent. Better value than Home From Home as well. More interesting is the history of the house. Notorious spy Kim Philby was here, as it was an MI6 secret office. There are tunnels going from here to the Fighting Cocks and possibly beyond.

Public & Preparatory Schools

St Columba's College

King Harry Lane, St Albans AL3 4AW, UK – 01727 855185

SCC is a decent secondary school, not terrible, but nothing special either. The local state school where I live produces consistently better exam results every year. Ironically, in a school which likes to emphasize it's Catholic ethos so much ,any student who is catholic is very much part of the minority. Facilities are good, and include newly refurbished classrooms and gym. Most of the teachers are excellent although the school likes to cut costs wherever possible, so if you want your son to be taught by 21 year olds, straight out of university, then this is the school you are looking for. The school does do an excellent job of enhancing student's soft skills and teaching courtesy and respect. St Columba's is a good school, just not good enough to justify the ever-increasing fees

Its really amazing, I mean I like it men ,wish visiting the place.
